The names are coming in thick and fast for the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, in November. Among the names so far announced are two former champions: Tore Torgersen of Norway and Caroline Lagrange of Canada. Tore was our champion in 1994 when the event was held in Hermosillo, Mexico. But he first played in the tournament two years earlier and has played a five times in all. In 2000, in Portugal, he finished runner up and was one of two players to hit a perfect game. His last appearance was in 2003 when he finished 5th. Caroline won in Melaka in 2009. She is one of five Canadian women to take the title home.

Paul Moor from England will be making his fifth appearance in the finals. He must like Russia as he last competed in St Petersburg in 2007 when he finished 5th. He will be joined by Autum Chamberlain, sister of Matt who played in Wroclaw last year and finished in the top eight. The Australian competitors will be Kate Pilkington and David Porto both of whom are QubicaAMF staffers. Several of the other players have already been to one or more World Cups including Sara Ataei of Iran.
Anne-Marie Board, QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Manager, said: “It will be wonderful to welcome all returning players again and particularly Tore and Caroline. Tore has been one of the top players for quite a long time now and is a real friend of the World Cup. And Caroline impressed us all with her standard of play in Melaka.   Our hosts are making very good progress with all the arrangements and I know they are laying on lots of very attractive events for the players and guests. The city of Krasnoyarsk and the area around it are simply lovely. It has a world famous ‘banya’ or spa not to mention the amazing skiing resorts which we expect to visit. We will also be able to go to visit the beautiful Yenisei river, which is one of the biggest and fullest river in all of Russia. I’m sure this will be one of the best World Cups ever.”

The 49th Bowling World Cup will take place from 15th to 24th November in the 32-lane ‘Sharovaya Molniya’ (Lightning Ball) bowling centre which itself is part of the ‘World Class’ fitness centre and Hilton hotel complex owned by the Sibiryak company. There is more information, in Russian, on www.visitsiberia.info. Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk to host 2013 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

The Sibiryak centre in Krasnoyarsk, capital city of the Russian province of Krasnoyarsk in Siberia, will host the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup from 15th to 24th November 2013. The 32-lane Sibiryak centre is part of the ‘World Class’ fitness and Hilton hotel complex. The ground floor contains three restaurants, the first floor is a magnificent leisure centre while the bowl is on the second floor. A 250-room hotel occupies the top 11 floors. QubicaAMF will take all of the rooms for the tournament. Anne-Marie Board, QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Manager, commented: “I was completely blown away by the Sibiryak centre, by the organising team and by the city itself. “The organising team – owner and CEO Vladimir Egorov (himself a bowler), bowling centre director Viktor Ushkac and deputy general development manager Evgeniy Moiseev – will ensure that this will be one of our best events ever.”

The head of the Bowling Federation for the Krasnoyarsk region, Nikolay Babyuk, represented Moldova in the Bowling World Cup in 2006, 2007 and 2011. There are direct flights from several cities in the Far East, from Dubai and of course from several other Russian and eastern European cities. In addition, it is expected that a direct flight from western Europe will be introduced by August.

Viktor Ushkac said: “We are so pleased to bring the World Cup to the Sibiryak centre. We will lay on shuttle buses to get players and other visitors to the main shopping centres in Krasnoyarsk and we are hoping to arrange other entertainment, such as skiing trips. It will be a memorable trip for all!” Ron Wood, Senior Vice-President of QubicaAMF Worldwide joined the team to sign the official World Cup contract and commented: “We take great pride in accepting the best possible offer to hold the Bowling World Cup and in Krasnoyarsk we have chosen a real winner. The facilities are simply magnificent.”  Alexei Shiryaev, Manager, QubicaAMF Russia and CIS, said: “We were overjoyed to welcome the Bowling World Cup to Russia and St Petersburg in 2007 so this really is a chance to say ‘Welcome back to Russia!’ to all bowlers and other guests.”

The city itself is in the Yenisei river valley and relatively flat but surrounded by mountains and wonderful scenery. It was described by author Anton Chekhov as the most beautiful city in Siberia.
